SOUTH COAST SECONDARY SCHOOLS CROSS COUNTRY
1. CRITERIA FOR THE SELECTION OF SOUTH COAST TEAMS
1.1. The major criterion for selection will be the performance of the athlete at the South Coast Regional Trials. Areas of performance considered should include -
1.1.1. The placing of the athlete in the qualifying event
1.1.2. The attitude and behaviour of the athlete as a member of the team.
1.2. In order for students to be selected in a South Coast Regional team they must be in attendance at the Regional Trials. The only exception to this is where :
1.2.1. Students are away at a sporting event of a higher level (in one of the sports approved by Qld School Sport) . The Regional Convenor must be notified of this prior to the start of the championships. Students must supply a playing resume
1.2.2. Any competitor(s), who are eligible for selection under clause 1.2.1, who wish(es) to be considered for selection, must notify the South Coast Secondary Schools Cross country selection trials convenor prior to the start of the first race on the trial day.
1.2.3. In accordance with current South Coast Secondary Schools Cross Country selection policy, medical certificates (WILL NOT) be accepted as a reason for non-performance and subsequent selection considered.
1.3. Students must be available for the full duration of the State championships
1.4. The Regional trial fee must be paid in order for students to be considered for selection.
1.5. Availability Form must be given to the District Manager prior to the Regional Trial.
2. SOUTH COAST TEAM
2.1. A team size of 72 athletes will be selected with a maximum of six (6) athletes in each individual age group (13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18/19 years) in both boys and girls divisions. In exceptional circumstances selectors may not select the maximum number if time performances do not warrant such selection.
2.2. Where applicable, age divisions that have absent competitors, who are eligible for selection, must be made aware of these changed selection conditions prior to the start of their race.
2.3. No squads can be selected.
2.4. Reserve athletes for each division will be identified at the trials.
3. SOUTH COAST OFFICIALS
3.1. Applications for the position of Regional Coach & Manager and Convenor must be submitted on the official application form on the South Coast School Sport website and received by the Regional School Sport Officer before the designated date (in the later part of the year preceding the
4. SELECTION PANEL
4.1. The number of selectors will be a minimum of three (3) to be chosen from the South Cost Secondary Schools Cross Country Managers, South Coast District Cross Country managers and South Coast Regional Sports’ Officer.
4.1. The Chair of the Selection Panel will be determined by the Panel.
5. SELECTION PROCEDURES
5.1. ALL students, parents and officials must be informed prior to the start of the trials that there may be (x) number of students who are being considered for selection but are not in attendance as they meet the conditions of exception to selection policy. This in no way means that these students are automatically selected in the Regional team
5.2. No students under any circumstances should be preselected
5.3. The selectors must meet with the district representatives to give them the opportunity to put forward the names of and comment on the athletes considered worthy of selection. Representatives should make themselves aware o the standards necessary for selection of a player in a
5.4. The selectors will meet at the conclusion of the trial day to verify results and selections.
6. ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE SOUTH COAST TEAM
7. WET WEATHER
In the event of inclement weather, a decision will be made by on the morning of the trials. This decision will be made in conjunction with Julie Henderson (Regional Sports Officer).
Announcements will be made where possible on local radio stations.
District coaches should contact the convenor at his/her home or his/her mobile by Ensure that all coaches have a procedure in place for contacting all members of their team in case of postponement or change of venue is necessary.
