SOUTH COAST SECONDARY SCHOOL SPORT -  SURFING

SELECTION POLICY – SOUTH COAST TEAM

 

 

 

1.      CRITERIA FOR THE SELECTION OF SOUTH COAST TEAMS

 

1.1           The major criterion for selection will be the performance of the player at the regional trials.  Areas of performance considered should include:

 

1.1.1       the skill level exhibited by the student;

1.1.2       the performance of the student as a member of the team;

1.1.3       the fitness level exhibited by the student;

1.1.4       the attitude and behaviour of the student.

 

1.2           In order for students to be selected in a South Coast Regional team they must be in attendance at the Regional Trials. The only exception to this is where :

 

1.2.1       Students are away at a sporting event of a higher level (in one of the sports approved by Qld School Sport) . The Regional Convenor must be notified of this prior to the start of the championships.  Students must supply a playing resume

 

1.2.2       Students have a medical certificate that is supplied prior to the start  of the trials, covering the regional trial date (Team sports only).

 

1.3                   Students must be available for the full duration of the State championships.

 

1.4           The Regional trial fee must be paid in order for students to be considered for selection.

 

1.5 Availability Form must be given to the District Manager prior to the Regional Trial.

 

 

 

2.      SOUTH COAST TEAMS

 

2.1           A team of  eighteen (18) students will be chosen  to represent the South Coast region.

 

2.2           No squads can be selected.

 

2.3           RESERVES ARE NOT NAMED Shadows will be invited to train with the South Coast team . These surfers will be under no obligation to attend but may wish to do so to improve their own surfing skills.  MR TEAMS AND STUDENT OFFICIALS (MAY BE OVERLAPS)

 

 

3.      SOUTH COAST OFFICIALS

 

3.1           Applications for the position of Regional Coach & Manager  and Convenor must be submitted on the official application form on the South Coast School Sport website and received by the Regional School Sport Officer  before the designated date (in the later part of the year preceding the South Coast trials). Late applications will not be accepted.

 

 

4.      SELECTION PANEL

 

4.1.          Each district must be given the opportunity to be a selector. The maximum number of selectors should be four (5), one of whom shall be the South Coast coach.  DETERMINED BY PROFESSIONAL JUDGING PANEL

 

4.2.          The South Coast coach will be the Chairman of the selection panel and would normally have the casting vote.  PLACINGS DETERMINE TEAM.

 

4.3.           The nomination of selectors (excluding the Regional Coach) will be decided at the pre carnival meeting prior to the start of the South Coast trials.  NOMINATION OF JUDGES ALL SURFING QUEENSLAND LEVEL 1.  DECIDED BY SURING QUEENSLAND EVENT COORDINATOR OR JUDGING CORORDINATOR.

 

 

 

5.         SELECTION PROCEDURES

 

5.1       ALL students, parents and officials must be informed prior to the start of the trials that there may be (x) number of students who are being considered for selection but are not in attendance as they meet the conditions of exception to selection policy.  This in no way means that these students are automatically selected in the Regional team

 

5.2       No students under any circumstances should be preselected

 

5.3       SUBMIT SEEDED NOMINATIONS TO CONVENOR BEFORE END OF NOMINATION DATE.  The selectors must meet with the coaches of competing district teams so that district officials have the opportunity to put forward the names of and comment on the players considered worthy of selection.  Coaches need to be aware of the standards necessary for selection of a player in a South Coast team.

 

5.5       The CONVENOR should maintain or keep all appropriate documentation relating to the selection process.

 

5.4       Players nominating for a South Coast team must complete the appropriate nomination form(s) prior to the South Coast Trials.

 

 

6.     ANNOUNCEMENT OF SOUTH COAST TEAMS

 

6.1.      The South Coast Convenor or South Coast Coach should announce the South Coast team to District team officials prior to the general announcement on the understanding that the selections are not to be made public.

 

6.2.      The South Coast team will be announced at the conclusion of the trials.

 

6.3.      Shadows should be picked at all trials ( whether these are announced or not is at the discretion of the selection panel).

 

 

7.   WET WEATHER

 

In the event of inclement weather, a decision will be made by 6.30 a.m. on the morning of the trials.  This decision will be made in conjunction with Julie Henderson (Regional Sports Officer). 

 

Announcements will be made where possible on local radio stations.

 

District coaches should contact the convenor at his/her home or his/her mobile by 7.00 a.m.  Ensure that all coaches have a procedure in place for contacting all members of their team in case of postponement or change of venue is necessary.
