SOUTH COAST SECONDARY SCHOOLS SWIMMING

SELECTION POLICY

 

 

1.     CRITERIA FOR THE SELECTION OF SOUTH COAST TEAM

 

1.1.          The major criteria for selection will be the performance of the athlete at the South Coast Regional Swimming Trials. Areas of performance considered should include -

 

1.1.1. the time and placing recorded by the swimmer;

 

1.1.2. the attitude and behaviour of the athlete as a member of the team;

 

1.1.3. AWD athletes must be competitive within their chosen stroke according to the

State Qualifying Times.  If the event is not held at the Regional Trials then times will need to be submitted.

 

1.2.          In order for students to be selected in a South Coast Regional team they must be in attendance at the Regional Trials. The only exception to this is where :

 

1.2.1.         Students are away at a sporting event of a higher level in one of the sports approved by Queensland School Sport. Students must supply recent evidence of their times from a sanctioned Queensland Swimming Association or Australian Swimming Inc. meet or from an endorsed Queensland School Sport meet. Times submitted must have been swum in a long course pool within the same calendar year. The evidence shall be either submitted by the District Team Manager or the chief manager of the team for which the swimmer is affiliated.

 

1.2.2.         Any competitor(s), who are eligible for selection under clause 1.2.1, who wish (es) to be considered for selection, must notify the South Coast Secondary Schools Swimming Convenor prior to the start of the selection trials.

 

1.2.3.         In accordance with current South Coast Secondary Schools Swimming selection policy, medical certificates WILL NOT be accepted as a reason for non-performance and subsequent selection consideration.

 

1.3.          Students must be available for the full duration of the State championships

 

1.4.          The Regional trial fee must be paid in order for students to be considered for selection.

 

1.5.          Availability Form must be given to the District Manager prior to the Regional Trial.

 

 

 

2.     SOUTH COAST TEAM

 

2.1                              A South Coast Region Team will be selected each year according to Queensland School Sport rules and guidelines.

 

2.1.1       A team size of approximately 120 - 150 swimmers will be selected.

 

2.1.2       Students may only be selected in events for which their year of birth makes them eligible.

 

2.1.3       Students will be nominated if they meet State Qualifying Times.

 

 

 

3.     SOUTH COAST OFFICIALS

 

3.1.      Applications for the position of Regional Coach & Manager  and Convenor must be submitted on the official application form on the South Coast School Sport website and received by the Regional School Sport Officer  before the designated date in the later part of the year preceding the South Coast Trials. Late applications will not be accepted.

 

4.     SELECTION PANEL

 

4.1.      The number of selectors will be a minimum of three (3) to be chosen from the South Coast Secondary Schools Swimming Managers, South Coast District Swimming managers and South Coast Regional Sports’ Officer.

 

4.2.      The Chair of the Selection Panel will be determined by the Panel.

 

 

5.     SELECTION PROCEDURES

 

5.1.      ALL students, parents and officials must be informed prior to the start of the Trials that there may be (x) number of students who are being considered for selection but are not in attendance as they meet the conditions under clause 1.2.1.  This in no way means that these students are automatically selected in the Regional team

 

5.2.      No students under any circumstances should be pre-selected

 

5.3.      The selectors will meet during the trial day to verify results and selections.

 

 

6.     ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE SOUTH COAST TEAM

 

6.1.      The South Coast Convenor, Team Managers or designated person(s) will highlight all those students that qualify for events at State Championships.  These results will be placed on the results notice board at the Regional Trials.

 

6.2.      Schools and Principals will receive notification of student’s inclusion in team.

 

 

 

7.     WET WEATHER

 

In the event of inclement weather, a decision will be made by 6.30 a.m. on the morning of the trials.  This decision will be made in conjunction with Julie Henderson (Regional Sports Officer). 

Announcements will be made where possible on local radio stations.

District coaches should contact the convenor at his/her home or his/her mobile by 7.00 a.m.  Ensure that all coaches have a procedure in place for contacting all members of their team in case of postponement or change of venue is necessary.
