SELECTION POLICY

 

 

1            CRITERIA FOR THE SELECTION OF SOUTH COAST TEAMS

 

1.1       The major criterion for selection will be the performance of the player at the Regional trail. Areas of performance considered should include:

 

1.1.1       The skills level exhibited by the player

1.1.2       The fitness level exhibited by the player

1.1.3       The performance of the player as a member of the team

1.1.4       The attitude and behaviour of the player on and off the court.

 

1.2        In order for students to be selected in a South Coast Regional team they must be in attendance at the Regional Trials. The only exception to this is where :

 

1.2.1       Students are away at a sporting event of a higher level (in one of the sports approved by Qld School Sport) . The Regional Convenor must be notified of this prior to the start of the championships.  Students must supply a playing resume

 

1.2.2       A player who is unable to satisfy the performance requirements due to injury may still be considered for selection.  However, a medical certificate must be submitted to the selectors through the convenor of the carnival.

 

1.3       Students must be available for the full duration of the State championships

 

1.4       The Regional trial fee must be paid in order for students to be considered for selection.

 

1.5       Availability Form must be given to the District Manager prior to the Regional Trial.

 

 

 

2.     SOUTH COAST TEAM

 

2.1.      A team of eight players (8) will be selected  -  four (4) boys and four (4) girls

2.2.      No squads can be selected.

2.3.      Shadow players will be selected but will not be announced.

 

 

3.     SOUTH COAST OFFICIALS

 

3.1.      Applications for the position of Regional Coach & Manager  and Convenor must be submitted on the official application form on the South Coast School Sport website and received by the Regional School Sport Officer  before the designated date (in the later part of the year preceding the South Coast trials). Late applications will not be accepted.

 

 

4.     SELECTION PANEL

 

4.1.      Each district must be given the opportunity to be a selector. The maximum number of selectors should be five (5), one of whom shall be the South Coast coach/manager.

 

4.1.      The South Coast Convenor will be the Chairman of the selection panel.

4.2.       

4.3.      The election of selectors (excluding the coach) decided at the pre carnival meeting prior to the start of the South Coast trials.

 

 

5.      SELECTION PROCEDURES

 

5.1.      ALL students, parents and officials must be informed prior to the start of the trials that there may be (x) number of students who are being considered for selection but are not in attendance as they meet the conditions of exception to selection policy.  This in no way means that these students are automatically selected in the Regional team

 

5.2.      No students under any circumstances should be preselected

 

5.3.      The selectors must meet with the coaches of competing district teams so that district officials have the opportunity to put forward the names of and comment on the players considered worthy of selection.  Coaches need to be aware of the standards necessary for selection of a player in a South Coast team.

 

5.4.      The selectors must meet on a regular basis during the day of the competition.

 

5.5.      Team coaches may submit a written report to the selectors.

 

5.6.      In the event of the Trials cancellation due to wet weather or any other cause beyond the control of the organizers, the selectors and carnival convenor will be responsible for naming a team.  Criteria involved in this situation will be based on performances in any matches played in the trials, current rankings, or any relevant recent performances.

 

5.7.      Selectors should make themselves aware of the procedures and criteria necessary for the selection of a player in a South Coast team and should have a knowledge of current rankings and performances of players participating in previous trials or events.

 

 

 

6.      ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE SOUTH COAST TEAM

 

6.1.      The South Coast Convenor or South Coast Coach should announce the South Coast team and shadow players to District team officials prior to the general announcement on the understanding that the selections are not to be made public.

 

6.2.      The South Coast team will be announced at the conclusion of the trials.

 

 

 

7.       WET WEATHER

 

In the event of inclement weather, a decision will be made by 6.30 a.m. on the morning of the trials.  This decision will be made in conjunction with Julie Henderson (Regional Sports Officer). 

 

Announcements will be made where possible on local radio stations.

 

District coaches should contact the convenor at his/her home or his/her mobile by 7.00 a.m.  Ensure that all coaches have a procedure in place for contacting all members of their team in case of postponement or change of venue is necessary.
