SELECTION POLICY

1.     CRITERIA FOR THE SELECTION OF SOUTH COAST TEAMS

1.1.          The major criterion for selection will be the performance of the player at the South Coast Regional Championships. Areas of performance considered should include -

1.1.1. The skill level exhibited by the player.

1.1.2. The performance of the player as a member of the team.

1.1.3. The attitude and behaviour of the player on and off the field.

1.2.          In order for students to be selected in a South Coast Regional team they must be in attendance at the Regional Trials. The only exception to this is where :

1.2.1.         Students are away at a sporting event of a higher level (in one of the sports approved by Qld School Sport) . The Regional Convenor must be notified of this prior to the start of the championships.  Students must supply a playing resume

1.2.2.         Students have a medical certificate that is supplied prior to the start  of the trials, covering the regional trial date (Team sports only).

1.3.          Students must be available for the full duration of the State championships

1.4.          The Regional trial fee must be paid in order for students to be considered for selection.

1.5.          Availability Form must be given to the District Manager prior to the Regional Trial.

2.     SOUTH COAST TEAM

2.1.      A team of twelve  players (12) will be selected.

2.2.      No squads can be selected.

2.3.      Shadow players will be identified in case of withdrawals.

2.4.         Selections must adhere to the correct age groups.  15 years and under players may only be considered for the 15 years and under selection.  They are not eligible for selection into the open teams.

3.     SOUTH COAST OFFICIALS

3.1.      Applications for the position of Regional Coach & Manager  and Convenor must be submitted on the official application form on the South Coast School Sport website and received by the Regional School Sport Officer  before the designated date (in the later part of the year preceding the South Coast trials). Late applications will not be accepted.

4.     SELECTION PANEL

4.1.      Each district must be given the opportunity to be a selector. The selection panel should consist of South Coast Coach, manager, District Representative .  The Regional Development Officer will only be there to offer advice to the selection panel.

4.1.      The South Coast coach will be the Chairman of the selection panel.

5.         SELECTION PROCEDURES

5.1.      ALL students, parents and officials must be informed prior to the start of the trials that there may be (x) number of students who are being considered for selection but are not in attendance as they meet the conditions of exception to selection policy.  This in no way means that these students are automatically selected in the Regional team

5.2.      No students under any circumstances should be preselected

5.3.      The selectors must meet with the coaches of competing district teams so that district officials have the opportunity to put forward the names of and comment on the players considered worthy of selection.  Coaches need to be aware of the standards necessary for selection of a player in a South Coast team.

5.4.      The selectors must meet on a regular basis during the day of the competition.

5.5.      At least one member of the selection panel should be present at each game.

5.6.      Team coaches may submit a written report to the selectors.

5.7.      Team officials must ensure that selectors are notified of players changing number of the jersey worn.

5.8.      The selectors should maintain a written report/assessment sheet of each game viewed for selection  purposes.

5.9.      A Possibles  vs  Probables, or equivalent,  match should be held at the end of the South Coast trials.

6.     ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE SOUTH COAST TEAM

6.1.      The South Coast Convenor or South Coast Coach should announce the South Coast team and shadow players to District team officials for ratification just prior to the general announcement, on the understanding that the selections are not to be made public.

6.2.      The South Coast team will be announced at the conclusion of the trials.

6.3.      Shadows should be picked at all trials (whether these are announced or not is at the discretion of the selection panel).

7.   WET WEATHER

In the event of inclement weather, a decision will be made by 6.30 a.m. on the morning of the trials.  This decision will be made in conjunction with Julie Henderson (Regional Sports Officer). 

Announcements will be made where possible on local radio stations.

District coaches should contact the convenor at his/her home or his/her mobile by 7.00 a.m.  Ensure that all coaches have a procedure in place for contacting all members of their team in case of postponement or change of venue is necessary.
