1.      CRITERIA FOR THE SELECTION OF SOUTH COAST TEAM

The major criteria for selection will be the performance of the athlete at the South Coast Regional Trials.   Areas of performance considered should include -

§    In all events (track & field) an athlete may only be nominated in the age group for which their age makes them eligible.

§    South Coast will be allowed ONE (1) automatic nomination per event.

§    South Coast may nominate additional competitors provided ALL (including the original nomination) have reached the qualifying times/distances.

§    The maximum number  of additional  from a region will be THREE (3) per event  except for those events which are offered as a composite age group (eg 13-15yrs)

§    In the case of composite age  group, the number of  additional competitors will be (5) FIVE .

§    It is important to note that attaining the qualifying standard in an event is NOT a guarantee of selection in the regional team.

§    The attitude and behaviour of the athlete as a member of the team.

1.1.           In order for students to be selected in a South Coast Regional team they must be in attendance at the Regional Trials. The only exception to this is where:

1.1.1.        Students are away at a sporting event of a higher level (in one of the sports approved by Qld School Sport). The Regional Convenor must be notified of this prior to the start of the championships.  Students must supply a playing resume

1.1.2.        Any competitor(s), who are eligible for selection under clause 1.1.1, who wish(es) to be considered for selection, must notify the South Coast Secondary Schools Track & Field selection trials convenor prior to the start of the first day of competition.

1.2.          Availability Form must be given to the District Manager prior to the Regional Trial.  The Regional trial fee must be paid in order for students to be considered for selection.

2.         MEDICAL CONSIDERATION

1.     An application form requesting consideration for selection must be submitted prior to the commencement of the carnival, or in the case of an injury incurred during the carnival, be submitted before the selection meeting at the conclusion of the carnival.

2.     The application must contain a medical certificate or in the case of injury a note from a physiotherapist stating the nature of the injury / illness and an expected date of return to sport.  A list of events with qualifying performances must be included with the application.

3.     The athlete will only be considered on performances that have been posted in the past 30 days at a meet sanctioned by Athletics Australia.  Performances from district trials may also be used for this purpose.  No other performances will be considered as this is demonstration of the athlete’s current fitness level and is also using information that can be validated.  PROVIDED MEET TIMING IS ELECTRONICALLY GENERATED AND THE TRACK IS OF AN ARTIFICIAL SURFACE.

4.     The athlete will be considered for selection in their event if there is room available for selection in the South Coast team and they have met the state qualifying standard.  Where all qualifying positions have been filled by athletes who competed at the carnival the athlete applying for selection will only be considered if their performances are considerably better than the  person they would be displacing (e.g. better than 8th at state last year).
